What is Virtual Dedicated Server (Part II)

Dedicated Hosting

Technical realization of VDS hosting services

All VDS are always installed and pre-configured with a large set of basic software (usually more than 1000 MB), required for deployment and operation of web sites. Virtual Dedicated Hosting is a complete unix-system. Administrator of VDS has  full root administration of its unix-system with opportunity and access to the full configuration and administration of the system, excluding its hardware.

Comparison between VDS with virtual hosting

Plus points of VDS:

• Full access to the system and root-administration.

• Unlimited number of sites, databases, domain zones, ssh / ftp / email users, VDS is limited only by system resources (disk, operation, processor).

• Complete isolation from other clients of hosting provider, neighbor consumes a lot of resources will have no impact on your VDS. Nobody can access your files.

• Installation of additional software, you can do it by yourself, without resorting your hosting provider, who may refuse.

Minus points of VDS :

• A small difference in price.

Comparison of VDS with UK Dedicated Server

Plus points of VDS :

• VDS is much cheaper than a dedicated server.

• All pre-installed software are regularly updated without intervention (if the user has not replaced), thus providing protection to VDS against outside intrusion with use of known vulnerabilities in older versions of software. In the case of conventional Dedicated Server user will do it by themselves or engage external system administrators.
